Is there a business case for outplacement?For companies planning to lay-off employees, whether or not outplacement support should be provided is often a question. A recent survey conducted by Reed Consulting in the UK highlights some of the tangible benefits experienced by organisation from providing outplacement support.

 

Ø      Improved employee moral, motivation, productivity

66% of surveyed employers feel outplacement support improves morale, motivation and productivity during times of change

 

Ø      Improved retention

65% of surveyed employers agree that providing outplacement support for exiting staff helps retain remaining staff

 

Ø      Improved reputation/brand protection

78% of surveyed employers feel that providing outplacement could improve the organization’s reputation

 

Ø      Employer of choice

55% of surveyed employers believe that outplacement can help the organization be seen as an employer of choice

 

Ø      Reduction in legal action

The majority of employers believe that providing outplacement reduces their legal liability. Employees feel better about their employer if they are given assistance during their transition, which reduces the risk of termination lawsuits.
